Macintosh Simulation Software

Neural_Rhythms1.0 (NR.HQX) is a self-extracting Macintosh program (68k) that classifies rhythms generated by small neural neworks (16 neurons or less).
The documentation is in the file "NR Doc." There are 12 ready made networks to get started with that you can double click to launch (or just open them from within the application).
Neural Rhythms is an implementation of the methods described in the following sources:

P.D. Roberts and G. McCollum (1998) Rhythmic behavior generated by ensembles of neurons, Intern. J. Theor. Phys. 37: 3051-3068.

P.D. Roberts (1998) Classification of temporal patterns in dynamic biological networks. Neural Comp. 10: 1831-1846.

P.D. Roberts (1997) Classification of temporal patterns in the stomatogastric ganglion. Neuroscience 81: 281-296.

This software is free and was written with the support of the National Institutes of Health grant R01-DC02482 to Gin McCollum.

MormyridPPC (MORM.HQX) is a Macintosh program (for PowerPCs only) that simulates the adaptation of a single medium ganglion cell in the electrosensory lateral line lobe of mormyrid electric fish. MormyridPPC is an implementation of the methods described in the following sources:

P.D. Roberts (1999) Computational consequences of temporally asymmetric learning rules: I. Differential Hebbian learning. J. Comp. Neurosci. 7: 235-246.

P.D. Roberts and C.C. Bell (2000) Computational consequences of temporally asymmetric learning rules: II. Sensory inage cancellation. J. Comp. Neurosci. (in press)

This software is free and was written with the support of the National Science Foundation grant IBN-9808887.

InhibPlast (IPLAST.HQX) is a variation of MormyridPPC that includes plasticity at inhibitory synapses in the molecular layer of the electrosensory lateral line lobe of mormyrid electric fish. InhibPlast is an implementation of the methods described in the following source:

P. D. Roberts (2000) Modeling Inhibitory Plasticity in the Electrosensory System of Mormyrid Electric Fish. J. Neurophys.84: 2035-2047

This software is free and was written with the support of the National Science Foundation grant IBN-9808887 and National Institutes of Health grant R01-MH60364.

MGCellsPPC (MGC.HQX) is a variation of InhibPlast that includes a second medium ganglion cell with reciprocal inhibitory connections between the two cells. MGCellsPPC is an implementation of the methods described in the following source:

P. D. Roberts and C. C. Bell (2000) Mutual Inhibition Increases Adaptation Rate in an Electrosensory System. (to appear in Neurocomputing)

This software is free and was written with the support of the National Science Foundation grant IBN-9808887 and National Institutes of Health grant R01-MH60364.

ParallelBeam (PBEAM.HQX) is an implementation of the methods described in the following source:

P. D. Roberts (1997) Stochastic recruitment in parallel fiber activity patterns. Beh. Brain Sci. 20: 263-264.

This software is free and was written with the support of the National Institutes of Health grant R01-DC02482 to Gin McCollum.
